Counseling needs among elderly people receiving Long-term care service at home

Abstract
Purpose: It is widely felt the counseling needs of the elderly who received the long-term care service. There is not always match between elderly`s counseling need and actual experience of counseling in the service. The purpose of this paper is to find the subject`s counseling need and the factors related it.

Methods: The data concerning 671 subjects were collected from June 2010 to July 2010. We measured the subject`s socio-demographic characteristics, physical and cognitive function, behavior problem, rehabilitation level and counseling need. The data were analyzed by mean and standard deviation, Pearson`s correlation coefficient and multiple regression using SPSS 20.0 program.

Results: The 14.01% of subjects lived alone, 47.39% lived with their spouse. The score of counseling need was 2.38. The highest score of the counseling need was that about long-term care system(2.61), the next was about long-term care service itself(2.32), the last was about physical function(2.20). The needs of counseling was correlated with the number of the received counseling.(F=0,11, p=.005).

Conclusion: There are highly counseling need for long-term care insurance in system and service. But the elderly received counseling, regardless of their needs. So it is important to establish counseling system appropriate by care management.
